Business and The Environment

At first when I began to take my Environmental science class I had asked myself, "why am I even taking this class for is I'm going into an accounting major?" That was until I had discovered how much influence that business has on the environment around us. Businesses not only need to produce products or services for customers for profit, but they also need to make sure that they do so in which to not negatively affect the environment around them. Business can actual form from the concept of taking care of the environment either through non-profit organizations or environmental science. It's important to take such measures in taking care of the environment because we live here, so it's important that me maintain the earth for not just ourselves, but also for the future generations that will come after us. Just a sneak peak at what our group project is going to be about a non-profit organization called "The Nature Conservancy Indiana" that is focused on improving the environment.

Holy Hell

The other documentary that had caught my eye during the documentary project was Holy Hell. I had recently finished watching the documentary and had left an impression on how social groups can be seen as cults, and how these groups can hide themselves from not being seen as a cult. The Buddhafield was at first a friend group that practiced in meditation, team work, and religious practices. The "master" of the Buddhafield promised his followers that he would show the group the true identity of God through the "knowing". The group participates in public services, charities, and meditation in order to prepare to receive this knowledge. The unexpected result from these practices is the master was brain washing these followers to get them to do his bidding, stretching to feeding him, building theaters, and sexual favors. The group slowly comes to this realization that they are being used for someones ego from an outsider that was originally part of the group. eventually, the original group members leave the Buddhafield, only latter returning secretly to expose the group. I highly recommend watching the full documentary for yourself, as it is an exhilarating film with a very intreating subject.

My Job

The first day of class we talked to each other to get a better understanding of who we are, so that we're not just peers. I had mentioned on that day that I work at a Dairy Queen on 45th street as an assistant manager. I would like to take some time to describe what I do when I work. I mostly have two shifts, a 9-5 morning shift or a 5-10:30 shift. During my 9-5, I am responsible for opening the store and operating it until the night shift comes in. The morning shifts responsibility before they leave is to make Sure that the night shift has everything that they need for the night as to not waste time stocking supplies, such as spoons, napkins, candies, and other toppings. The 5-10:30 shifts is where our business is the most busiest it gets through the whole day. As an assistant manager, my responsibility is to make sure that everything is operating smoothly, solving problems, and satisfying customers needs. When we close at 10pm, I am in charge of who cleans what, counting that days revenue, and making sure that we get clock out at a decent time. Sometimes jobs may take longer depending on how many workers we have that night, or if there is any big messes that we need to clean up. Other than that, I enjoy my job because I get to work with some of the best people that I know and I get to make people happy with their favorite treat.

Work Load

The first challenge that I have realized about college is the work load form all of your classes, because wow its a lot more than what high school was. Having multiple assignments in different classes wasn't necessarily new to me, but these assignments take a lot more time than I expected. From group projects, to exams and book work it takes a lot more effort to get all of the work done. I've noticed that my social life isn't as social as it has been before due to this change in work. I don't have as much time to hangout with friends, or spend as much time gaming. However, there are upside's to this change: I have learned to use my time wisely, I'm now determined to get all the work done, I always try my best, and once everything is done I get some time to myself as an award. Im curious as to how you guys manage your time, and what aspect of your life you had to sacrifice either in work, school, or your social life.

End Of 1st Semester

The first semester of college went better than I had ever expected. I was a shy kid during high school, never really leaving my comfort ...
